Sometimes the trick is speed between you and the other end. The weakest
link in the chain may not be you but any one of the hops inbetween. So
if you are on the east coast your data has to come across the
continental US to get to you and every acknowledgment on each packet has
to hike all the way back to California. So you might have 6Mb throughput
to a server down the street but much less performance elsewhere. Some
speed testers will let you pick the destination to test with.
