Esther, thanks, yes, I'd saved all of the appropriate settings, but
it was just the scrolling table which threw me.
I did see your note after posting mine, but still didn't find the
answer until this one, so a huge thanks yer' way!…
Hope yer' having a great weekend and that you're also enjoying your
new nano!…
Smiles,
Cara :)

Hey All, -just have a couple of quickie questions for ya about
selecting playlists to sync with the nano. In the music tab, I
have my nano set to only sync selected playlists. In the table,
only ten playlists are shown, and I cannot seem to access any
others than those. Unfortunately, none of them are lists I wish to
sync! ick! I've created a playlist specifically for this purpose,
but I can't seem to either manually sync it or have it show up in
that table to check it to have it automatically synced.
How do you have your Options set on the Summary page of your Nano?
If it came up without "Sync only checked songs and videos" checked
or with "Manually manage music and videos" checked you'll have to
change the settings to what you want -- this is probably with the
following options checked:
"Open iTunes when this iPod is connected
"Sync only checked songs and videos"
"Enable spoken menus for accessibility"
(First and last came up checked automatically for me with VoiceOver
turned on)
If you change your configuration, find the "Update" button and check
it
Then go the Music tab. You need to check the box for "Sync Music"
and the Radio button for "Selected playlists" (instead of "All songs
and playlists"). At that point you should be able to find a list of
all the playlists in your iTunes library in the table. It's a
scrolling table, so only about 8 entries get listed on my MacBook at
a time. Usually (but not always) you'll hear the alert that you've
come to the end of the visible table and have to scroll (VO-shift S)
then arrow down 7 or 8 times and escape.
In fact, if your other settings are correctly set up, that might be
the reason you can't get to the playlists you want checked. Simon
posted about this and I added comments about this (yesterday?).
I also tried dragging and dropping it to move it up in my sources
list, as it seems that the ten playlists displayed in the IPod
table for synced playlists are dependent on where they fall in my
sources list. So if I can simply move my created playlist closer
to the top of my sources list, I know it will show up in the table,
as I've seen this happen before.
The other tip I gave in my post is to create a folder for the
playlists that you want to put on your Nano. iTunes orders its
playlists alphabetically, but grouped by: first folders and their
contents, then smart playlists, then regular playlists. If you
create a folder for the playlists that you want to transfer, these
playlists will always appear first in the contextual menu lists for
"Add to play list", and if you ever do a manual transfer with
VoiceOver drag and drop (which you DO NOT WANT TO DO for your Nano
4G), the folder is indeed much closer to the device. (it's also a
good check of mastering drag and drop, since if you can drag and
drop a play list to the folder, you can drag and drop it to an iPod
-- remember to expand the folder with VO-backslash so you can view
the contents). The reason you don't want to manually transfer to
your Nano is that sound tracks for your 4G only get generated when
you sync.
See:
http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40macvisionaries.com/msg42164.html
(Content transfer to the iPod Nano 4g)
for details.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to drag and drop! double
ick! lol!
So aside from the rather hacky practice of moving all of my desired
content to a playlist with an unrelated name which already shows up
in my syncing table, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I
can do to access other playlists than the ones already shown up in
the table in the music tab of my nano? Sorry for this basic
question, for what should be so simple, but it's just being a royal
PIMA at the moment! lol!
Anyway, am sooo diggin' on my lil pinky IPod! I've got a bit of
traveling ahead in the next few days, so will have 12 hours in the
air to catch up on some recent TV shows I haven't had time to check
out lately! <smile>
Anyway, hope yer' all havin' a terrific Sunday! Catch y'all laters!…
Cheers,
Esther
