Hi all, I just got back from the apple store in San Francisco, where I
played with an i-mac, and got awfully frustrated, because the sales
people knew nothing about voice over, or key board commands, and I
wanted to see if I could do that quick start thing, after hearing
Edward Alonzo's tutorial. I won't chock it up to a bad experience,
because they don't know about voice over, but at one point, I had to
say to one of the sales people, how am I supposed to be interested in
the mac, if nobody knows anything about how to interact from the
perspective of the key board. I still am interested in the mac, but it
is frustrating when mouse users only know how to use a mouse, and
another part of the frustration was that I forgot the quick start
command, it turns out it is command option control f8, and I was just
doing control option f8, which takes you in to the voice over utility.
I finally got help with that, and did most of the quick start things,
but the things like command option shift c, or command option shift r,
just yielded dings, so I eventually skipped that part, but one thing I
don't understand, if you move the cursor to a table, you can just down
arrow through it, with no top or bottom reference, but when I
interacted with the table, it said text japanese, or text german,
etcetera, and when I tried pressing control option shift r for row, or
control option shift c for column, it just dinged at me. I still have
to get around the concept of having to interact with a table, or
something like that, but if I get a mac, I will probably get an i-mac,
because I want a large hard drive, and at least 2gb of ram. Can you
import your address book into the mac mail program, as well as your
account, so you don't lose any of your messages, because if I can
import my address book, and the .act files, which have my folders and
my filter settings, then I can have my lists on the mac computer with
the assigned sounds I want for my various lists. I understand that pm
mail has a version of their program for the mac, but it did not have
ssl encription. When I left the apple store, I did instruct the
salesman to thank the lady that was originally helping me out, so I am
in no way bitter at the lack of knowledge they exhibited toward voice
over. If anybody needs anymore information, let me know, and I will
give it to you.

Marty
