hey Esther, thankie! <smile> -I just wasn't quite clear on the note. Ya know, email can be weird that way sometimes. lol!

Have you by chance, set a hotspot for the status area or the scroll area for monitoring IPod memory usage?… (the darned name is eluding me right now! lol! -Finally getting sleepy! -this is a good thing!) :)

Anyway, have a great night!…

Hi Cara,

Nope, I didn't mean to imply you were challenging him, I was just expanding on what I thought David was enthusing over. There's nothing in the manuals -- or in the basic set up instructions for that matter -- that requires anybody to check the Player Status window in iTunes, and the storage space statistics you mention are on the iPod Summary page. If you didn't know this information was being reported, and that download information status about the attached iPod device, as well as about any tracks you are currently playing in iTunes, was displayed in this window, would you think to look there? (Well, in your case, the answer is probably yes <grin>,) I know that David was tracking the sync progress, because I repeated the information about what he should hear reported (if he did a VO- up arrow twice from the iPod's status pages) in the exchanges about possible trouble-shooting. I don't know whether most people want to monitor this stuff, though.

For that matter, I don't know that most people would want to get the LineIn app from Rogue Amoeba so they could plug their iPod Nano 4G into the line-in jack of their Mac and route the sound output to their speakers. It was kind of cool to crank the output volume up and listen to things whirr while the sync took place and when I ran the software update. I probably won't make a habit of that <smile>.

Cheers,

Esther

P.S. To keep up with the sync progress status updates you should move your VoiceOver cursor on and off the Player Status window (e.g. VO-left and VO-right), since you'll only hear the window update and report status at the time you move into it.

Have an awesome eve!…

David's right, though, that you can use the Player Status window in iTunes to monitor the status of the sync as it is in progress -- you can hear when the spoken titles are generated and what songs are being downloaded in between the iPod sync messages. There's no need to sit around twiddling your thumbs and wonder what's going on up to the point where you hear the iPod speak -- and then you hear the "iPod" announced as soon as the sync is completed.

Cheers,

Esther

<smile> You can even watch your storage space change in real time! -Of course, if that sort of thing gets ya off! lol!

Seriously though, I agree, I absolutely love the progress / level of access that has just happened here over night as it were. yes, there are a couple of things I'd like to see, but I'm super impressed!

For those who may fear it, the IPod snc process is quite accessible. I've heard and followed the instructions on how to select plalists and such, but
what was really nice was tracking the sync process to its end.
