The news groups table seems oddly ambiguous. There isn't a discription for each group available from the server, but there is a size field and unison doesn't seem to give it to me.

OK, I'm assuming you went through all the beginning stuff when it comes up and you have your easynews account set up.
So, press command option G to open the groups window.
VO to the all groups radio button and make sure it is checked.
Now the way I'd do this is to press command K.
Type the group name such as alt.binaries.mp3.audionbooks.
Press enter and wait for the group to load. Then go to the group menue and choose add to favourites.
If you want to browse for groups, take the day off work.
Type the first part of the group name, such as alt, so you can get to all the groups that start with alt. When you actually find alt, press the right arrow to expand it and then type bin to get to where you can conveniently arrow down to binaries and press right arrow on it. Repete the process of typing and arrowing until you actually find the group you want. Once you find the group you want go to the group menu and choose add to favourites. For some reason I can't get it to come up by pressing enter on it and there's no popup menue.

Hope this helps,

how do i subscribe to a news group?

Alright. I have easynews and Unison.

When I start unison it grabs the new headers for my subscriptions. In my case, I'm only subscribed to alt.binaries.mp3.audiobooks. In the window for the a.b.m.a group I have four radio buttons and the files button is checked.
So, the postings are in a table, and they are grouped by thread.
As I arrow down the table there is a collapsed thread called Terry Pratchet, Discworld24, The fifth elephant. It's from some one called fixer123 or some such, and it has a size of 615.92 MB. So, if I want to download that book I press command D. That's it. Nothing else needs to happen. Unison makes a folder called alt.binaries.sounds.audiobooks. Then it makes a folder for the thread using the thread name to call the folder. Then it dumps all the files from that thread into the folder. If I want to find out more about the book before I download it, I press right arrow on the thread to expand it. Then I arrow down until I find the fifth elephant.nfo, and press command D on it. It will land in my downloads under alt.binaries.mp3.audiobooks. So you just keep hitting command D on the threads you want and they just pour in. To move between your transfers window and your news group headers press command accent just like you would to move between windows in finder or text edit.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,

What exactly are you having trouble with? Unison's disgusting. I can cue up 20 or 30 gigs worth of news group binaries in half an hour and let the cue run for a day and it will suck it all down. Not only are the files compiled, but they are automaticly sorted by thread and collapsed together like conversations in mail. To grab a set of files, such as a 300 file audiobook ripped from cd, you just press command D on the thread and it will download to it's own nice little folder. To find something like the info file for a post, right arrow to expand the thread, down arrow to the nfo, and press command D.

It was mindboggling the first time I used it. I've never had such a good time with news groups.

Please let me know if you're having a specific issue.
