Mike et all, there is no reason to leave a computer running 24 hours
a day if your only using it for a quarter of that time or you run a
server or have a need for it to be running. ALl this worry over
wearing out parts etc. seems to be of no real issue any longer. If
your not shutting it completely down, at least allowing it to sleep
will conserve electricity. So, maybe that will answer your question
Mike as to why someone would want to shut their machine down. Of
course you could argue this point all day long, but conservation is
not a bad thing and I've yet to wear out a drive whether leaving it
on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or turning off the machine for
more than 60 percent of the day.
