I suspect Apple would push towards using Garage Band for anyone who cares enough to want sounds other than the built-in QuickTime synths. You can get a USB to MIDI interface for about $40 and a lot of synths now just come with USB, although I haven't tried that yet. My Juno-G has a USB port but it might just be for file transfers.

I was kind of wondering this myself, there is a software synth built in, but honestly it's not that good. Even many sound cards in Windows sound better, I would love to find a good midi synth for the Mac, it doesn't have a midi port, so I can't connect my keyboard or my Roland Sound Canvas.

hello to all is there a way to change the synth that the apple uses to play midi files or any free synths that will run on the mac?
