Have you worked out how to save the attachment? If so, then just go to
where you saved it and press command-o to open it.
If you haven't found the Save pop up button, navigate left from the
main body of the message and you should find the QuickLook button and
then the Save pop up button. Click this, select Save All and then
navigate the dialogue box as usual.

to get the attachment from the E-Mail itself by clicking the Save
button and following the usual dialog box to choose where to save it.
