In safari, you can use tab and it is not that many tabs away although I
usually disable the toolbar so I go to google.com and am placed right on
the
edit field. If you have the checkbox in safari advanced prefs set to
highlight items on a web page as you tab to them, option tab will take you
from control to control including edit fields. if that checkbox is not
checked, tab will do it and option tab will take you through all items on
a
web page.
