Hi,
I read this summary about the software update for the iPod Nano 4G:
"Apple has released Software Version 1.0.3 for the fourth-generation
iPod nano. According to the company, the update adds support for
Appleās new In-Ear Headphones and Earphones with Remote and Mic, a
setting to turn off Cover Flow when rotating, and a Cover Flow menu
item in the Music menu. Other changes include fixes for instability
issues with the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, problems with album art and
photos distorting after playing a slideshow and waking from sleep,
respectively, and other general bug fixes. Software Version 1.0.3
for the fourth-generation iPod nano is available now via the Update
feature in iTunes"
This is apparently largely the content of the "Important
information" window -- I took a screen snapshot. There should be a
way to OCR the contents of screen captures in these types of
situations.

I got the authendication dialog just fine. It just took a while to

I think there are some new selections in the podcast settings tab
but cannot
be sure. That wouldn't affect the nano as far as spoken menus
though. I
looked through the items and didn't find anything except the rotate
and
cover flow. Now I did play a bit with clocks and alarms and some
of this
seems to be a bit different but I don't mess with them enough to
know.

Well, I must say I'm very happy to be able to shut off the cover
flow
rotation. Something I did notice is that, while the Nano was
synching,
it re-generated all of the spoken menu entries. So far I haven't
found
anything that speaks now that didn't before, but I'll keep
looking. I
haven't changed the system voice or anything like that, so not sure
why the spoken menus were regenerated except to think there might be
something new hidden in there. If anyone runs across some spoken
menus
that weren't there please keep us all informed.
A slight note about installing the update, an authentication window
comes up asking for an administrator's password. On my system this
window did not come to the foreground and I had to use vo's window
chooser to get to it. VO didn't otherwise indicate that a window had
popped up in the background--it usually does, so this was a bit
odd--
so if your update seems to be stalling this is likely what's
happened.

Hi Jacob and all,
I ran the update and synced my nano and noticed the cover flow
(rotate)
option because it was pointed out in the note I got but I'll see if
there is
anything else when I do some work with it connected later today.
On the experience:
I was somewhat disapointed because the information about the update
was not
available being "unknown" with no way to read inside it. er than
that, the
update went well and I noticed when syncing, it took quite a while
to update
the speech.

I didn't know there was an update. Thanks for letting me know, I'm
going to install it right now. Have you noticed any other
improvements?
