Dave: this is the most usable for me explanation of what's going on. We all have to remember that this isn't windows, and old habits sometimes have to die a hard death.

For me the migration has been fairly smooth but this as well as web usage were the two issues that gave me the most difficulty when making the transition.

This is explained in a recent message and has been explained in various ways
several times since we started using the Mac. If you are having the
*problem* I think you are having, it boils down to the fact that the cursor is actually between characters. if you move right and hear a character and then move left, you will hear that same character so if you want to delete a character, move right till you hear it and hit delete, if you want to insert beginning before a character, move left till you hear the character and insert. This is not a bug, this is not a problem and infact is more precise
than what we get in windows which has always confused me.

Subject: VO and tracking cursor in text fields

Hello all,
I am sure I am not the first one to ask this but... Is there a
work-around to get VO track the cursor correctly in text fields and
multiline fields?
Currently, it is very difficult to read and edit in textedit or on the
web because the current character under the cursor is not accurately
reported.

Thanks,
Vic
