Question about searching in ITunes

I don't believe, now, I could be wrong, but I don't think that this ever has 
been asked.  I'm curious though:  I know I can search by album, artist, or 
genre, that is, if I have the browser enabled, but, let's say, that I wanna 
search my whole library for songs that're just specifically a 3 star rating. 
Yeah, I know I can make a smart playlist, and tell it to include only 3 star 
rated tracks, but that isn't exactly what I'm getting at.  What I'm 
actually! wanting to do, is to physically search the entire library, not 
have it make a playlist for me, but let me be totally in control, and 
specifically only! show in the songs list, things that're a certain rating. 
If this can't be done at this time, boy would that be a cool feature to see 
them add.
