Hi David,
This is actually in the TextEdit help. Type in your list, select all
items in the list, then apply the lists selection option (bullets,
numbers, etc.) from the popup button on the ruler. Here are the
instructions pasted from the help:
To create a list:
Type your list, pressing Return at the end of each list item.
Select the list, then choose a bullet or number from the Lists pop-up
menu. To customize a bullet or number, choose Other.
