Been there, done that! I'm afraid you will have to keep the purchases and delete them if you don't want more than one in your iTunes library [I assume you are talking iTunes here]. From now on, only click once. You've only lost $2.97 if it was a song. Sometimes, iTunes asks me if I want to complete my album. Since I don't, I just take the loss. You might want to check you library next time to see whether the free song has been added before you click again.
