jessica;
you are aware that you can run linux, windows, and mac on your macbook right? Right now with vmware i have:
main os Mac osx 10.5.6
first vmware machine: Centos, v5.2
second: Windows XP
Third: Windows 98SE
Forth: Youbuntu, 8.10
so it's doable. I mainly use the mac, but have been messing around with ubuntu and centos. I also will be removing 98SE and keep XP
thanks

yes thanks for the answers. They do help. I will remember this. And I
think there will be more mac users as time goes on. I think to be
honest. there are windows users there are linux users there are mac
users. And then sometimes you have some who work with two of those or
all three. I keep telling a friend of mine who gets upset because of
some people using this over that. I just say to them. YOu cannot rule
other people's lives. Some do things this way others that. The point
is they use what works for them. And that is the important thing.
Linux I know I can use it and there are things about it I definitely
like. I am sure there are going to be things about the mac that annoy
me on occasion. But reading and listening to things I think the mac
gives that middle ground for those who really don't want to use
windows. And don't mind linux but aren't huge system administrators.
Mac is sort of that middle ground. At least n my view. I of course as
I said could be wrong. But that is what it seems to be for me. And
that is what I have been looking for for years. Thank you all for the
welcome to the list. Glad to be here. I have used computers about
every waking hour of every day for at least ten years. that includes
dos, windows 3.1 95 98 me xp, linux and now mac. I have used jaws for
windows, window eyes, nvda and some other screen readers under
windows. speakup and yasr and orca under linux when I could get it to
work. And now it will be voice over via mac.
Having said all that I am not a computer tech or geek. I use a
computer to get daily things done such as email, browsing the web,
bible study, skype and text chat and some gaming (muds) which I heard
is sort of kind of lacking on the mac right now although there are a
few solutions.
albeit they may not be the best. But who knows maybe something will
come along at some point.
So I hope as I hope to receive help here I hope to give it too. I like
testing applications and see what is and what isn't accessible.
Oh yes I also used apple II2e I think it was in school LOL. That was a
long time ago.

Hello. My name is Jessica Arnold. Some of you on this list know me I
believe. And I know some of you anyway from past adventures in linux.
And I am not totally sure but I also think from past classes at the
Seeing Eye.
Anyway. I got some money from a family member's passing away. Sad
thing to get money from. HOwever the happy part is I paid my debts.
And am debt free and caught up my bills and such.
And was able to actually buy a mac computer. I was meaning to do this
for a while now. But cost you know is a big issue for a person on
limited income.
My computer I have here refuses to behave itself under linux. And I am getting so fed up with windows. I believe the mac will be good middle
ground for me.
I of course could be wrong. But I don't think I am. I listened to all the podcasts on blindcooltech based on the mac that I could find. And
also on main menu. Read everything I could read up about the mac and
voice over and went over the different mac models several times to
decide which was best to get with the money I had.
I finally decided on the macbook.
I do have a question however. Anyone here does anyone have a macbook? There is one thing I have been unable to figure out and cannot seem to find the answer to as crazy as this may sound. When I get the computer
I would like to know where the power button or whatever is. And for
some odd reason I have not been able to determine this info from any
of the podcasts I have listened too. It is really odd (laughing out
loud). I usually find all the info I need.
Now knowing computers as well as I do I will probably find the way to
turn it on very very easily. But it would help to know before hand
from someone who may already know.
The computer is supposed to arrive tomorrow. HOwever I have a doctor's
appointment. If I had known it was going to ship that soon I would
have waiting a day or two before ordering it.
And I don't know what fed x does if one isn't home. And I cannot seem
to find their website to find their number so I can call them asking
if possible that the driver doesn't come till after the noon hour some
time.
Does fed x come the following day if you aren't home does anyone know?
I thought of doing the presign thing on apple. But when I found out
you needed to print something out I thought oh great I don't have a
printer yet. But that is okay I live in a trailer (in Florida for
anyone who knows me yes I moved from Wisconsin to Florida) and I
wouldn't be comfortable with it being outside for any length of time.
Although I have had no problems from people in this trailer park. I
don't trust my next door neighbors. They have never done anything
wrong to me or anything. But they get rowdy at night among other
things. And I just don't think they are high standing citizens if you
know what I mean.
Anyway I am not trying to be so detailed. But I also live on a very
very busy street which would mean anyone could just come up and take
those boxes if I was able to do the presign thing.
Anyway. Later. I guess I can excuse myself for this email being
detailed as I am introducing myself.
For anyone who is interested in knowing. No I don't have Jesse
anymore. Had to return him to the Seeing Eye due to his not working
out well and do to finances about a year ago. I was drowning in money issues. NOw I am free. I want to reapply for another dog. But I am not
sure if the Seeing Eye will approve it due to the mess that happened
with Jesse. I only ever returned one dog. Quantas worked till she was retired and I sent her back to find her a good home because my mom was
insisting she be put down.
I think with Jesse the school said I did a good job on caring for
Jesse and stuff. But I am trying to email them to see if my reapplying would actually possibly get me a third dog. Every time I am without a dog for a year. And I get settled in my new place I realize that I am
just not a good cane traveler sighs.
So I hope the Seeing Eye will say yeah there is a good chance if you
reapply that you will get a replacement dog. But enough of that. That was for the benefit of those of you who do know me from the two seeing
eye classes I was in.
God bless you all.
Oh btw. with this mac. I bought the printer as well. I did not buy the
printer all in one because I was concerned it may not work with the
ocr software out there. So all I need to save up for now is a braille
display and a scanner and I will have a complete computer solution.
And for tons less money than if I went the windows route.
Even upgrading my jaws version would be nearly impossible now as the
last time I upgraded it was like three or more years ago.
