Hi Mike,

I gather you want to be able to use VO-J to jump from the messages table to read a selected message, and then use VO-J again to move back to the messages table. There is a splitter that separates the messages table from the message area. As Marshall suggested, if this worked for you previously, the most likely reason you cannot currently use VO-J or tab is that you have moved the splitter to the bottom of the screen. If you have done this, when you press VO-J you may hear the "no more" beep, because VO-J can only jump to the message area if it is visible on the screen, and the messages table is now taking up the whole area so there is no message area to jump to. This can happen if you double-clicked while you were positioned on the splitter. That automatically drops the splitter to the bottom of the screen. It can also happen if you managed to resize your windows and make them really small (but I have difficulty imagining how you could inadvertently do this in practice).

If you stop interacting with your messages table and VO-right arrow or VO-down arrow, do you hear anything announced after the splitter? If the Message area is not hidden, you should hear "Message Content (Scroll) Area" once you VO-right or VO-down past the splitter. If you don't hear an announcement that there is a message area beyond the messages table, then you won't be able to jump to it. Try to either interact with the splitter and move it up with your arrow keys or else, after you navigate to the splitter double-click on it. (I use VO-shift-space to double-click by holding down the Control, Option, and Shift keys and tapping the space bar twice. You can also use a mouse or trackpad key to double-click if your mouse cursor is routed to your VoiceOver cursor at the splitter). This should reverse the action of dropping the splitter to the bottom of the screen if you accidentally double-clicked on it in the first place. You should now hear "Messages Table", "Horizontal Splitter", and "Message Content Scroll area" when you navigate with VO-right arrow.

Now you should be able to navigate as before:
1. interact with message table
2. use VO and the right or left arrows to find a message field. I.E. author or subject
3. use the standard up or down arrows to locate a message
4. press VO J to read a message
5. press VO J again after you hear the message being read to you
You should now be back in the message table
6. press delete if you want to to delete the message you just read...
If the above does not work, there is are alternatives to using VO- Shift M and open: either double-click your selection in the messages table with VO-Shift-Space as described above, or use Command-O. Either way will have the same effect as VO-Shift-M and selecting open.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Esther

Hi all:

Still can't get the VO/J command to function.
I do see the messages table and my msgs but can't VO/J to read the body of the msgs. Now, I have to shift,VO keys and M and then select open. It's not a big deal but it does slow me down a little. I enjoy the jump command.
A list of things to try might be helpful.
