Dear Scott,

You are very kind. I'm in the UK which makes things a bit complicated. I think I'm up and running although my eyes are closing - it's rather late, and I have to be up at 6 tomorrow morning and working till 6PM. Never mind, it's worth it.

Before I connected my airport express/cum time capsule, I had been using my Mac in two locations and therefore had two different internet connections. I guess it made things more complicated. I think I shall delete the airport disk utility not to confuse myself. Is it safe to do?

I have made the configurations as logically as possible, and I am now on the internet. Should I run into trouble, may I skype you? What's your name? I shall obviously consider the time difference and your time constraints. It's a steep learning curve, but I'm very excited. I'm just installing fusion as well. So god help me!

I've managed to allocate 20 GB of hard drive to my bootcamp partition. It won't be long before I incorporate it using fusion. but in the meantime, I'm playing safe. Guys, I wish I had your knowledge, or the time to go after it. Thanks for being there for people like me. Keen but ignorant.

With best wisehs

Simon, first you do not need the AirPort Disk utility. Secondly, not sure what you had previously if any router. If you had an AirPort Express it is possible to copy settings if you will, but it depends upon the configuration etc. Point is the setup shouldn;t have been so difficult. Are you in the U.S? I can give you a yell if you need some questions answered or we can get on SKype. The Time Capsule is more an AirPort Extreme and backup solution combined into one unit. The Express shares a number of similar features, but is yet different unless they have made a lot of changes.

Dear Listers,

I'm exhausted but also trimphant because I've just managed - I think I have managed - to set up my time capsule with airport express. This promising device seems to combine airport express and time capsule. However, having been assured by the shop assistant where I had bought the device that it should pick up all my settings automatically - I have spent the last 3 hours trying to do so as it didn't do anything automatically. I have consequently a very red hot face, and my heart's thumping.

Luckily, it seems that I am connected to the internet which is a great relief.

prior to having bought the airport express/cum time capsule in one -ż I had been connecting to the internet via an ethernet connection and modem given to me by my ISP provider, virgin media. The shop assistant told me that all I had to do was to connect the ethernet cable to the airport express/time capsule and that my computer should pick everything else up automatically. How mistaken I was to believe that.

Anyway, I think all is wwell and working for now although I expect some unexpected problems in the future.

Listers, I have in my utilities folder under applications two apploications: airport disc utility and airport application. When I try to launch the airport disk utility I get a message that this application is not supported by the architecture. What does it mean?

Also, listers, Should you have any helpful tips on using airport express/cum time capsule with Mac on which I also run windows under bootcamp - although I shall soon be running windows under fusion, please let me know. This is all rather technical, I feel very much adrift and frightened. My work depends on my computer, I can't afford to lose any communications related to work or appointments.

Thanks in advance for any tips you can give me. I have followed very carefully all the threads realating to time capsule airport express on the list in the knowledge that one day I will be going that way but it is all very different when you are actually doing it without the depth computer knowledge some of you/many of you have on the list.

With many thanks

Simon
