Functies worden met iets anders geassocieerd in programmatuur. zeker in programmatuur die zelf een programmeerinterface bevat. Toepassingen zijn voor de meeste mensen applicaties. Hulpmiddelen als term blijft in mijn opinie nog steeds generiek genoeg, terwijl ook de betekenis/connotatie voor iedereen instinctief duidelijk is.
