no, you have to download everything (which is less than the last
service pack for MSO) ... but you don't have to install everything.
you can choose to install only writer+writer help and nothing else.
That is one option - but if all you need is a word processor, may I 
suggest AbiWord.   It's an open source, free, cross-platform, MS Word, 
WordPerfect, and OOo Writer - compatible word processor that has most of 
the features that most people need in a word processor.
