I'm afraid, yes, at least for the 2.0 release.

The setting does not work anymore. I checked it by myself.

I think you are preaching to the converted. Nearly everybody here
(except maybe Chad ;-)) doesn't like the removal of this setting. As I
wrote, the main reason for the removal was the intended application
dependent behavior, but unfortunately nobody here really knows or even
understands why this seemed to be necessary.
