I am a long timne OOo user. However, I have not previously used Impress having preferred PPT. Yesterday (1.9.65 and 1.1.4) for a new project
Very disappointing experience- I found IMpress confusing, unreliable and, ultimately, unstable-
* in 1.9.65 text animation works in design mode but not in preview mode.
* I went back to 1.1.4
* Text animation didn't work at all for me
Can you be more specific?
* Could not find a sidebar view panel to see my slides
I don't believe there is a sidebar view panel. You either have to use the tabs on the bottom of the screen or change to *Slide View*.
* timings were inaccurate. Slide transitions were 'jerky'
Could be PC processing speed. Just a thought.
I create twenty slides, saved the project and thought about it.
Went to re-open, "Corrupted file - Format error discovered in sub document blah blah bla
You'll forgive me if I go back to PPT, yes?
As Daniel pointed out the 1.9.65 is pre-release so you have to take that with a grain of salt.
To me, Impress has always been a little disappointing compared to the rest of OOo. I know there are benefits, but one of the things I can't do in Impress 1.1.x is have different kinds of text animation in the same text box, every bullet must be the same. :(
They say it will be better in 2.0 and I haven't tried it, but I am hopeful. Keep on trying and reporting errors. It is probably the least used of the different OOo components, so it probably gets the least error checking.
