I've found that blogger is pretty good for hosting the blog at your own site as well, provided you're willing to give them a ftp username and password. Also, on the RSS/Atom mix: blogger can automatically create an Atom feed, but many news aggregators only support RSS, so I use the feedburner.com's smart feed service. check it out at feedburner.com You've probably seen the adverts about how FF supports RSS. They're called 'Live Bookmarks" and they have an entry for each entry in the RSS feeds. It's quite handy to keep up on various news. In explanation as to what you'd use a blog for, you can think of it as a kind of public online journal where you can talk about just about anything that floats your boat. Or you can have a topic oriented blog, like my blog, silveronion at silveronion.blogspot.com which is the blog where I'll be keeping a fairly detailed account of what I'm doing as I work towards a new chrome layer replacement for VCL. I have another blog that me and another administrator of a group of computers can post what we've done so that we aren't always coming behind each other and redoing the same thing. Recently a county in my state created a blog so that people could talk about a proposed new highway. Blogs can be a very useful place to let off steam, or a place to inform others.
