The comment, as you correctly infer, was written with new users in mind. Thanks for noticing!
My own suggestion would be a script so that new users don't have to remember a command that might as well be a magical spell for all the meaning that it has for them.

When someone else expressed a dislike for the move towards Java as a comment to the article, Daniel Carrera pointed that Java was what the contributors had chosen to work in.
That is, of course, true. However, I wonder whether, at some point, the Community Council isn't going to need to make an executive decision on the issue.
One alternative that I wouldn't mind seeing is the option to choose another movie/sound player by setting the path to it in the options. Users could, for example, opt to use totem instead of the Java player.
