They'll be used to sign documents of course. :-) Signatures are used to sign any kind of file. Not just emails. They are for anything for which you want to verify authenticity. Some FOSS projects have even begun replacing MD5 hashes by PGP signatures for example. Surely, when you downloaded GnuPG you saw the signatures: ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/gcrypt/gnupg/ Notice all the .asc and .sig files :-) Signatures are useful whenever authenticity and integrity are desirable.
