Check this out:

It seems Google Desktop now has an SDK to make plugins to search
additional file formats.
This one is only for the OOo 1.*, but according to the dev's site,
there's a new version with support for OpenDocument
(http://www.trivex.net/ ). The plug-in is open source BTW.

I spotted it in PCPro and wrote to the author, see: http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=19791

Larry has since come back to me to say "done", i.e. created plug-in for
the new OpenDocument file format :) But he does need a .stm file to test
the new plug-in. So if anyone has used the OpenOffice.org Math component
in 2.0 Beta, please contact Larry. His email address is on his web page
www.trivex.net.

There are many other Google desktop search plug-ins, and people are
going to be visiting the Google Desktop Search site who may not know of
OpenOffice.org. And Google has set up a Google Group for each of the
plug-ins. So we are not just talking amongst ourselves, may I suggest
that if we have any questions or wish to contribute to the discussion
that we join Larry there too
(http://groups-beta.google.com/group/Google-Desktop-Plugin-Larrys-OpenOffice).

Larry and Google have provided another space in the ether to let people
know about OpenOffice.org :)

Regards
Jacqueline
