In the late 80's there was a spreadsheet called CubeCalc or QubeCalc which did this in three dimensions. Really, you could display this kind of thing by transposing rows vs columns within the same sheet or across multiple sheets for n-dimensions. It would be an interesting feature to have for displaying relational databases in Calc.

What you are describing is not complex and is quite common. Relational databases are inherently n-dimensional with each table adding a dimension.
