If what I think you want, is indeed what you want, then you can use
dBase, but SQLite or MySQLwould be more efficient. I've never used
HSQLdb, so I don't know how well it works.  I'll assume it is
functionally equivalent to SQLite and MySQL.  [& yes, I realize that
those products are designed to solve radically different problems, but
I'm refering to general functionality, here.]
