BTW my point was not that this stuff uses java (no idea about that), but that it may be shunned like java is today once distributions decide Helix is redundant (which is a distinct possibility, Helix has a definite lack of traction on Linux now)
and you are right, gstreamer is the correct choice for Linux.
maybe something like NWF (Native Widget Framework), in this case using on each platform it's native sound system.
