I've been testing it on a number ( around 10 ) of PCs at work since OOo-1.9.m58 ( early November ) ... or at least this is the oldest version I've kept around. We've had a number of issues - more than our fair share of documents causing crashes, printing problems, etc. Luckily for you, though, most of these have been fixed. The original problems we had forced me to revert to OOo-1.1.4 - a couple of times. Now I'm quite happy leaving people of OOo-1.9.m87, which seems to be quite stable. One thing we have noticed is that compatibility is MS Office documents is greatly improved. The difference really is impressive. As for 'risk', we haven't had OOo mangle any documents, so I would say the risk is incredibly low. If you come across a crasher - which is quite rare now - you can always revert to a stable release. The Windows versions seem to work better than the Linux versions, unfortunately. The Linux version, for example: - can't read / write to an nfs server - crashes when displaying the native ( gtk2 ) file open / save dialog ( the OOo dialog is OK ) - won't allow you to select a dictionary other than the default - won't open OLE objects ( will display them though ) - crashes in cases where the Windows version doesn't I can't imagine any situation where OOo would cause you to have to reinstall the operating system, which is more than I can say for Microsoft Office. After a couple of months of use, especially after a couple of uninstalls / reinstalls / software upgrades, the Windows registry seems to become quite broken, and uninstalling / reinstalling Office no longer makes things work properly. In this case, you have to reinstall the OS. But I've never seen that with OOo. -- Daniel Kasak IT Developer NUS Consulting Group Level 5, 77 Pacific Highway North Sydney, NSW, Australia 2060 T: (+61) 2 9922-7676 / F: (+61) 2 9922 7989 email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] website: http://www.nusconsulting.com.au --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
