the new paste-special shortcut
Yeah, I forgot to mention that one. That thing changed the way I live. I've added that to every word processing program I use. That's the coolest little trick ever!
and now imagine that this is removed in next subversion with no ability to configure.
you are very quick to dismiss things that you don't like or have found no use (like the remembering of last editing position). for example, i have used word count 3 times in my life - once i needed it ('96 ?), two other times just to see what it looks like in oo.org 1.1 and 2.0. do you see me bitching in every thread about wordcount that it's unnecessary, that there is no need to waste time on this feature and so on ? i understand that features are exactly for the reason that poeple have different needs (based on their work requirements or habits).
daniel has mentioned that some aspects of oo.org seem strange - i, for example, find strange that a feature is removed (and not only from interface, but also functionally) for a completely unfounded reason. in this particular case, the default could have been changed (to accomodate mso converts - although some people are trying to say that oo.org is not mso clone, lately similarity with mso is chosen over functionality) and additionally this could have been made an option that users could change through configuration files. instead this choice (which was noted only after removal of feature) has been silently done and basically getting anybody responsible to participate with arguments seems to be impossible.
so, to explain why i'm sort of flaming here ;)
it's not what you are saying - it's how you are saying that. it would have been enough to say that you personally have no need for position remembering. trying to fight against a feature in every thread seems... slightly exaggerated.
it's also the same with all flames that you have been involved concerning msoffice. it is necessary to look at competition to see areas where one might improve - but it's again _how_ you do that.
most participants on this list have done something for the good of oo.org and it probably is somewhat in their subconsciousness as a child :)
so any criticism must be worded to avoid insults as possible.
"remember last editing position" is a really neat feature and i just love it. so do some other people. if you see no need for it - why are you just dying to see it removed (it's very different from implementation from the scratch) completely ?
