Your implicit assumption is that the default was changed. As far as I can tell, it wasn't. I have been using the pre-release copies for some time, and I've always had that box un-checked. So has, AFAICT, everyone else in the OOoAuthors team who has been writing the user guide for OOo 2.0. The problem seems to have been in your installation.
