Not officially - but the feedback on the beta quality builds (beginning with 1.9.79) seems to tell us that there is work to do before we are ready for a final release. This not only holds true for the code base but for other areas too.
We can tell computer world that "it's ready when it's ready".
Surely we all would appreciate more developers regardless whether independent or company employed. And I think our project would appreciate more consequent "upstreaming" of work done outside the OpenOffice.org CVS repository.
But I keep hearing that it's very difficult to get CVS access here, and that patches just aren't accepted. Some outside developers have pointed to some patches they've made which have been sitting on IZ for over a year. My limited experience suggests they have a good point. For example, I've been arguing for ages to include some clipart in OOo. I've talked to the releases and installation teams. I helped start the OpenClipArt project to get lots of images. Now they're done, there's over 3,000 of them. All public domain, and none have been admitted. By contrast, the Novell Branch did not delay in including clipart images. The message that sends to me is that if I want my contribution accepted, I am better off talking to the Novell developers.
Cheers, Daniel.
