You are looking at JCA from the wrong side. You should ask:


Please, keep in mind that I'm not suggesting that we nuke the JCA. I simply said that for *add-ons* it could be removed. That's it, nothing else.


As others have said, you can distribute add-ons from a site where you don't need JCA. You only need that, if it should be added to the core product. And if you have somethings that will be incorporated into every instance of a piece of software used by millions of people and that will need to be maintained and tested by dozens of people, then mailing a piece of paper to Califormia does not seem unacceptable overhead.


Even for 'mere' add-ons, by offering them directly from the OOo website the OOo project takes additional responsibility as perceived publisher for them.

BTW: Would you operate a website offering such contributions for download at your risk?
