Hi CPHennessy! How to get information at OOo can be an erratic and "hair-pulling" exercise. Some folks suggest to post on a list, some folks suggest contacting the project managers when one does not receive a response after posting. Some project managers respond and are helpful. Others act like one should bend down and "kiss their a....." whether they respond (rudely) or not. I try to roll with the OOo OpenSource punches. I must admit it can get really annoying and not helpful for the image of OOo, no matter how "free" it is when users cannot get answers. It should not matter if it is a question relating to usage or features.
No one is demanding that features be implemented (at least I am not) but I am asking questions and expect responses. So OOo is free. I guess I should be in a "swoon" when I get an answer because of its payment status? OOo development goes forward by developers and users interacting. Some users are more knowledgeable than others and can navigate better. I have found the folks running the Biblio project to be helpful, the folks running the Impress project(s) not helpful and/or responsive. Saying all the above I would also like to say, thank you SUN, thank you Novell, thank you list moderators, than you project managers (that respond) annnnnnnnnd thank you users!!!!! Once OOo gets a really good biblio feature going, I really believe it will be used more by Academics and get much more exposure and use by folks who will probably continue to use it as their careers continue out of school - High School Students, Engineers, Lawyers, Physicians, Artists, Psychologists............. Even more Academic folks (I believe) will gravitate to OOo when Impress can embed audio, video and animation with more ease and they can create presentations similar to MS Producer for MS PowerPoint. Of course the business folk may want/need some additional features in OOo Calc. Without users, why OOo? Just to say it was possible???
