Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is a way for me to arrange for OpenOffice to be
developed into Interlingua, which is a 50 year old "bridge language", or
International Language. Interlingua was developed by dozens of prominent
linguists, from many countries, and is currently being used in Colleges and
Universities to teach foreign language comprehension. The Department of
Agriculture in the US published scientific books in Interlingua and there is
a growing body of work that uses this language, with many new users.
(Interlingua was developed by taking language features that are common to
Italian, Spanish, Portugese, French and English, with German and Russian
being control languages in case no commonality can be found for a particular
language, or grammatic, feature.)
I no nothing about software development, but I would like to see to it that
an Interlingua word processor exists, with an Interlingua interface, support
material, along with a built in Interlingua spell checker, thesaurus, and
dictionary.
I would need to know what would have to be done and how to accomplish this.
I believe, that the spirit in which Interlingua was developed fits well into
the spirit of OpenOffice.
You can take a look at the site of the World Interlingua Organization, and
get an idea for the language. (For example, you can find the entire text of
the Constitution of Europe on the right of the main page, translated into
Interlingua.)
Cordially,
Chaba Gryphon
