Our friends at the Mozilla project (makers of Firefox and Thunderbird)
are also working on a calendar called Sunbird:

This is a very young product. You can try it out, but don't be surprised
if it doesn't work. Making good software is a very slow process.
There is also a project called Evolution which makes a Linux-only
contact manager + calendar. They recently announced plans to make a
Windows version too. But again, that will take some time.
As for OpenOffice.org, we don't want to duplicate the work already being
done in Sunbird and Evolution. This would be a very inefficient use of
our limited resources. So instead we'll cheer on Sunbird and Evolution
and try to inter-operate nicely with them in the future.
As an aside, if you're looking for a full open source experience, how
would you like to contribute to OpenOffice.org? You don't have to be a
programmer or anything. I'm working with the Authors project, we're
making a user guide for OOo 2.0, which will be comming out soon-ish.
Maybe you'd like to join us? Our group is friendly and productive. It's
a great place to get started with OOo. Your job would be simple. Read a
few chapters that sound interesting and tell us if they make sense. If
something isn't clear, or could be improve, you point us to it and we
fix it.

Or perhaps you already have plug-in's and extensions available? If you
do, I did not see mention of them in your office suite product
descriptions.
