Just wonder if you have tried to configure the automatization options, 
usually you find them in tools > costumize. There are some rules that are 
not activated, I don't know the list by heart, but i know some of the things 
you mention can be found there. I suggest you to try it, also you might want 
to give the version of Openoffice.org <http://Openoffice.org> since they 
change on the way the options are ordered.
