In that same train of thought I wonder why they took out the rotation from
Writer's. In all extend that seem more simple than having to go to Draw to
rotate a jpeg image.

Hi SC et.al.,
this has been been a decision of the people involved
in the planning for the new presentation module for
OOo 2.0. The intention to remove this functionality
was that we wanted to keep the UI as simple and self
explaining to the user as possible. Such
'full blown' UI's with as much features as possible
like we we had in the past were the main
reason for people to not accept our product, especially
when they came from major competitive products. Projects
like Gnome etc. made the same decision in the past to
enhance the acceptance of their product with IMO good
succes.
Their may be people like you and some other power users
who consider this to be a nice feature and we
may have to think about a 'power user mode' for the future,
but for the moment this seems to be a good solution that is very
sufficient for the largest part of our customers.

Kai

Hello Kai & Christian!!
Could you provide some clarity as to why layers are no longer
available in OOo Impress?
I would like to see them restored.
Please see the following thread,
