The next time somebody writes in suggesting a Grammar check funtion you
might point them to this post.
Out of curiousity I took a couple of short passages from posters for
whom English was barely a second language and pasted them into Word.
Then I set the Spelling and Grammar checker loose on them. The results
were interesting.

I am having a problem that.when i installed the any openoffice on the win
xp machine with the network printer driver. after that any of the open
office is not opening or it takes long time to open.
so can you help me out for the same.
I have installed open office beta 2 (1.1.125) and also try out on

1.1.5. it create the problems on the lexmark network printer driver, wep
printer or any laser printer driver..

Now this is NOT a slam on the OPs. I assume they are bright,
intelligent, and literate in their native tongues. However, their
command of the English language is a bit rough. I just wanted to
illustrate the complexity and inadequacy of automated grammar checking.
You would expect the result to at least be technically correct, if
stilted. It didn't even catch mistakes that render the text almost
un-intelligible. How much good is this going to do you for more subtle
questions of style?
