I sent a message which was rejected by your mailer as it included a couple of screenshots which considerably exceeded your size limit I am resending it below without the screenshots, which I am very happy to resend to an address which will accept them.

Steve

Dear Sir or Madam, I attach two screenshots of a spreadsheet viewed by Ooffice on a Mandriva Linux, originally written in Excel, in which gross dividends are calculated from net figures and a tax figure calculated from the difference between these. (Like a lot of ad-hoc spreadsheets this evolved over time rather than was ever properly developed as software!) The first of these, screenshot-2, shows this being performed correctly but in the second, screenshot-1, rather alarmingly shows it incorrectly showing the value of -D50 rather than F50-D50. I then realized that the difference between these was the fact that the entry for F50 used the "DOLLAR()" function, which the seemingly identical row 39 illustrated in screenshot-2 did not. It is evident that there is a type mismatch problem which causes the output of the dollar function to be incorrectly not added to the result. It not only causes an incorrect reslt, but extreme alarm and despondancy! Steve
