Wondering if there has been any discussion/consideration of
association with openclipart library? Seems like a natural association.
Tom, such an association should be a two way street. On the Open Clip
Art Library website OpenOffice.org is listed as an affiliate, but on the
OOo website OCAL is not mentioned at all.
Even more, it used to be mentioned at
http://contributing.openoffice.org/art.html but the link was removed.
We are doing a redesign of the OCAL website and in this process I
proposed for OOo will be removed from the affiliates list, but this was
not yet decided.
Indeed. Though OCAL was set up in part by OOo volunteers, and they bent
over backwards to make images that would be suitable for OOo, and they
promoted OOo on their website, the response from OOo has been to ignore
the project and deny any contribution. When I made the Contribution page
it had a nice big section about OCAL. Later Louis changed it to make
OCAL less prominent. And eventually removed the reference entirely.
Likewise, though most documentation gets written in OOoAuthors, all
references to it were removed.
With this sort of attitude from OOo, I too would recommend that OCAL say
"sod it" and do its own thing.
Cheers,
Daniel.
