Defacto standard is really the only one that matters. If a law is on the

use a certain thing a certain way, then that's pretty much standardized.
Thank you for demonstrating your inability to grasp basic concepts even
after they've been explained a dozen times to you.
ISO is not a self-appointed group of quasi-experts. It is a highly
respected standards body responsible for a lot of things that you take
for granted today. Like the ability to read this email (character sets),
the ability to read a web page (SGML), databases (SQL), CD ROMS (why do
you think they are called ISO images?), much software (C, C++, Ada
programming language), etc. When I told my mom that ODF was going to be
an ISO standard, that made a world of a difference to her. Because as an
engineer, she knows the weight of ISO standards. She knows they imply
quality and industry support.
Cheers,
Daniel.
I worked in a trade that had three different bolt "standards" used.
What a pain as one of these standards had no tools for sale in North
America. I would like to be a mechanic on Chad's car and use one of
these standards. Replace Metric with AF bolts.
I agree ISO has a basis in many trades. In some corporations, if
there is an ISO standard, it must be followed, even if it means
changing present procedures.
I do see Chad side of the argument. There is an ISO standard for date
formats but many different formats are still used. Heck I have seen
three different formats on one single form. People like to use what
they are used to.
I will now sent either PDF or ODF documents. If someone asks for a
different format, I give them the link to OOo.
