The only time I successfully transfer documents between MSOffice97,
MSOffice2K and MSOfficeXP, is when I rewrite the entire 500 page
document either from scratch, or transcribing the printout.

In every case MSOffice has failed to correctly read the file that was
created using a different version of MSOffice. Font issues were the
least of them. Entire markup formating gets demolished in the switch.

Does your Office Suite conform to ISO Standards?

I like the sig line. :)

Around work here, people work between computers that range from W98, 2000 and XP. MS Office versions are even wider. Final formatting for presentation is a real pain and in many cases, formatting is lost between computers. Our organization now allows documents to be presented in pdf format but Office doesn't include PDF generator at this time. Available through an add-on. The biggest issue has been MS's auto formatting. It takes over the document an has destroyed hours of work and "Won't Undo!"

People are moving to both LaTeX and OOo because both of these provide more control. Our organization is even providing templates in LaTex and looking at OOo versions.
