Windows 95/98 was the most large scale virus ever deployed ;-)
About five years ago, there was a site on the Web that had folks
email them, and tell them how long their system stayed up without
reboot.
Windows (or, as a friend seduced me into calling it, Lose), anyway,
Lose95 averaged 6 days, Lose98 was either 5 days or 2, I forget. 2000
stayed up longer, NT 4 was 49 days (some timestamp rolled over).
Meanwhile, some crazy who was running an old Slackware distro of
Linux claimed 1991 or so days.... <g>
Even today is hard not to see how many people reboot their machines
several times a day. Worst thing is that they come to think that this is
a 'normal' process. If you install something, you need to re-boot the
system.
Heh. The daughter of a friend of mine, when she was, mmm, 15 or so,
would be surfing, and I'd see her reboot her '98 box two, three, four
times a night.

An answer to gun nuts (1):
"However, I believe you are trying to prove that the D-Day invasion
was unnecessary, as the Wehrmacht were doomed to inevitable defeat
by the mighty French Resistance. Good luck." - Tim Smith
