Hi Dominik,
Thnaks for your interest and suggestion.
Reading your mail, I get the impression that the way you apply
numbering, is different from the way I am used to do it.
You start mentioning 'Listing/Numbering'.
The example thereafter, however, applies to 'outline numbering'.
The first is for lists. The second for chapters and paragraphs.
So when I write a document with chapters etc. I apply the styles Heading
1, Heading 2 etc. according to my needs. I do this with Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2
etc, or via the Stylist, or with the style name-box.
When I want the headings to be numbered, I enter the menu Tools|Outline
numbering. There I can set the numbers, with all variables, for each
level. Straight enough for me.
I set this once, and it works in whole the document. If necessary, I
change once, and it works everywhere.
This way of numbering is also extremely handy when you need an table of
contents.
Does this make a difference for you?
Pls keep posts on the list.
Kind regards,
Cor

Hi
I'm unhappy with the way Listing/Numbering works in Writing-Software including
the Oo Writer. I have a suggestion to make it work easier for amatuer users /
ungeek persons. I think the system as it is, is unintuitive and needs a lot of
fumbling to get it the way you want. Every person I ask about it who isn't an
IT specialist would agree with me on that one. ( Just watched the department
head of research and development of our company get really frustrated with MS
Office while trying to get the numbering in a document right )
Example:
1.1 headline
text text text
lot of text
spreadsheet
text text
1.2 headline
text text text
to make the headlines 1.1 and 1.2 look the same takes me forever, if you don't get the
right order pressing "enter" it takes even longer, because then the numbering
has a different size than the headline and stuff like that, so you have to start over. I
bet that it is possible to pre configure these things ( putting some 10 minutes in it
though) but it should be more intuitive, avaible off the start and I don't want to take
time read the manual of a writing software, no time for that, rtfm my a.. , no offense.
I want to include numbering in an easy way WHILE writing not edit it AFTERWARDS
or BEFORE writing.
Solution: If a numbering is entered a dialog should pop up asking the user to what other
headline this numbering should become connected to or if it should start a new numbering
or if numbering should be turned off in the whole for this document. If the user picks
"connect to this (user should just click the appropriate headline at this moment)
headline" the writer should automatically convert the new list item in the way the
one that the user connected it to is configured (same style, same size, same distance to
page boarders). This dialog screen should pop up not in front of the written stuff, but
on the side, to make it less annoying. Maybe the headlines available for connection
should be marked in some way. You could have all your headlines including numbering done
in one scroll and one mouse click, so easy. Of course it should be possible to turn this
feature off after first appearance for the pros.
would be very cool to see that feature in a new edition of your awesome office software!
You would make so many friends with an easy user interface like that ( and surpass MS ),
I think this is a "the one who does it first wins" feature.
best regards
