I used to use Mozilla but have recently moved to FF/TB because of speed and reliability.

What specific features are really needed that cannot be achieved with individual applications?

We need to create a reliable XPCOM binding with the Mozilla framework to communicate and sync-import data from it. A lot of integration need to happen between thunderbird and Sunbird to make this more general.

A good question will be to see which database is Thunderbrd/Sunbird is using for storage and if its possible to share this db with OOo. Then a possibility of a plug-in to also have something similar to the journal feature, or a relation between documents/appointments and contacts.

I am personally not sure about the future plans between sunbird and thunderbird, but the newsgroup for all this projects are open and exploring this integration between their apps might also make us build integration with them.

So far OOo supports a wide array of protocols and even can parse XML from a macros level and access COM (ActiveX) on the windows platform. However like pointed out earlier, we need to support a wide array of platforms which means that our features can't be deployed on each one of the platforms (that will be a waste of resources).

Like I said before this is FLOSS and if you have an itch, you are welcome to scratch it, but is really annoying when you want other people to scratch it for you at least when you get an answer and you keep pointing out why u have that itch.
