Your discription is not so specific.
AFAIK, there's not an image type that would not display in OpenOffice.org.
May I suggest you to have a look at the following options in Writer/OOo:
- Tools|Options|OOo Writer|Lay out > Display of grapics and objecs
- Tools|Options|Load Save|MsOffice > Column L
If this doesn't offer a solution, a more clear description or samples
could be of help.
