I would say that any qualification that was supposed to be for generic IT capability and is so dependent on specific features of proprietary software is fundamentally flawed. If you want a QCA approved qualification that is easy to administer and designed to be compatible with OpenOffice.org, take a look at www.theINGOTs.org. The Awarding Body is The Learning Machine Ltd which has recently been approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authorities in England Wales and Northern Ireland. We have a start on an EU project to widen this to member states and we will soon be running a significant trial in South Africa. The certificates are designed to be compatible with the UK National Occupational Standards and the recently published functional skills standards for ICT. Certificates are available at Entry Levels 1, 2, and 3 and Levels 1 and Level 2 in the National Qualifications framework. In addition to operating skills, students are required to learn about open systems and open source communities and get credit for participation. Its likely to be much easier for you to change qualifications than it is to get a global project like OOo to implement software specific features to meet one obscure UK base ICT qualification. > Could you please advise if there are any possible solutions available? The one above is most likely to be doable quickly. We are incidentally running a pilot of the L2 qualification in Maidstone at the Newline Learning Federation. E-mail me if you want more information.
