When opening OpenOffice Writer, clicking on the menu item File > Recent
Documents, there is a list of recently opened documents. Sometimes these
files are moved or deleted and are not available, but the registry maintains
the list as written with application shut down. If the user clicks on a file
that does not exist, an dialog states that the file cannot be found
(expected and correct response), but it might be useful to remove that file
name from the MRU list without other user input.

This is a very useful suggestion, thanks. I will add it to the list of
things we might want to improve in the Recent File List.

May I suggest that the removal not be done without user input, but rather that the user be asked if the file should be removed? There may be times, when the file has been moved, that the user would prefer to move the file back to its original location so it will continue to show up in the list.
