My chief interest in OpenOffice is that it represents a quality alternative to Microsoft's Office. I consider Microsoft a giant monopoly-like company.
Something that would seriously help OpenOffice against MS Office would be to make the modules so they open fast like the OpenSource project from Germany, SSUITE or better yet, like Softmaker's new version of Softmaker Office 2006 for Windows. I was blown away at how fast Softmaker's writer and Softmaker's spreadsheet modules open and are ready to use. I have tried out SM's portable version and it consists of much tighter code, is smaller and opens from a pen drive. Impressive. Softmaker's products are powerful and feature rich but OpenOffice is more powerful. I would love to see a version of OpenOffice that has productivity modules that open as quickly as Softmaker or SSUITE modules do.
